One of the reasons that we established Josai University as a non-specialist university in April, 1965 was to meet the increasing demand of people wishing to go on to a higher level of education. Furthermore, we thought that the human resource development which should do a lot for the founding of a nation or a society could not be all achieved only by the existing established universities.
From the viewpoint of education as a means of character building, the university was established with the mission to educate current and future generations to be able to carry out the necessary responsibilities to serve their country and communities.
With this in mind, away from the bustle of the big city, a wide stretch of land commanding a far view of Mt. Fuji, Jomo and the refreshing stream of the Koma was chosen for the university campus which would stand on the small eminence of the zelkova-tree hill leading to the wide range of foothills of Mt. Chichibu far in the distance. Then, the new facilities and equipment were laid out there on the new campus.
Here in this optimum location for education, we can receive excellent researchers and educators of great insight as the faculty members. Under the enthusiastic guidance of these faculty members, many talented young people are to be educated so as to become people of high ideals, devoted to the pursuit of truth and justice, rich in intelligence, human love and genuine courage, and what is more, equipped with a morally driving force. It is our desire that the education offered at the university create academic traditions of its own and contribute to the development of our nation and society.
The students at JU study basic theory about nature and the society they live in and they also carry out research on the laws of historical developments. At the same time, they are educated with the aim of cultivating the ability to think as well as to put into practice what they have learned, so that they can participate fully in the community.
