In the future, it is predicted that food and cosmetic products that have indistinguishable effects from drugs will be developed and sold in a market. Providing information of Japan’s high quality food, cosmetic and drug products to the world will be necessary for people to safeguard their beauty and health. The goal of this department is cultivation of specialists and technicians who will be professionals in the fields of food, cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

● Beauty
The Laboratory of Pharmaceutics and Cosmeceutics and the Laboratory of Dermatological Physiology can both be found in the department.
● Foods
A term much in vogue recently, ‘functional food’ has the properties of both food and drugs. The Department develops functional foods and studies their safety and effectiveness.
● Drugs absorbed through the skin
Medication can be delivered in a stable manner to the body through medicated patches and gels. The Department is contributing to developing these drugs.

* The path to licensed pharmacist (transitional measure until 2017): It is possible to take the national examination for pharmacists to become a pharmacist licensed by the Minister for Health, Labour and Welfare after graduating from the four-year program at the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, entering and completing graduate school, and doing a practicum outside the university environment.

It is possible  to obtain a teaching certificate at graduation by earning credits for the teacher-training course.
